This is going to be a rant, so I feel it only fair to clarify some things before I am superficially categorized by those who feel hell-bound to do so. First, there are four basic terms in popular political discussion that said “categorizers” bandy about. They are liberal, conservative, Democrat, and Republican. The two former terms do not refer to parties. They categorize world views. There is a wide variance in minutiae within each of them, but they have very clearly defined foundations. The latter two are the reigning political parties in America. From an electoral perspective they are the only two that really matter. All that said, then, I am a conservative. I claim neither party and have voted for both camps at various times. That is not because I vacillate. It is because the parties do.
Secondly, I recognize the following assertions; not all Democrats are liberals, not all Republicans are conservatives, not all liberals are left-wing, and not all conservatives are right-wing. When I criticize Democrats or Republicans, I’m not referring to the members of the party, but to the current leadership of that party. That’s an important distinction. The ones who are in power are the ones that make the decisions that affect my life. They’re the ones I hold responsible. When I criticize liberals or right-wing conservatives, I’m not criticizing individuals at all. I am criticizing world views (well, yes, and the PEOPLE who hold those views when those people have the power to screw up my life). That, too, is an important distinction. So if you disagree, make an argument. Support it with reason and evidence. Don’t stick your fingers in your ears and chant “BUSH LIED KIDS DIED!” at the top of your lungs. You just look like an idiot. I don’t argue with those people because, well... (O.K., I almost said, “I refuse to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed [man? person? human? critter?],” but that’s sooooooo jejune.)
With that out of the way, then, on with the rant.
Few things turn my stomach more than ignorant pseudo-intellectuals pissing on America while they greedily suck up the bounty of her fruits. This is a rising liberal pass time. These people hate being confronted with the Truth. (They also hate people who are smarter than they are, which results in their having to live out every day of their lives in a great deal of angst, especially when they’re college professors.) They put on the mantel of compassion, while their hearts roil in a dichotomy of self-obsession and self-revulsion in perpetual turmoil. This would not be a problem for us if they kept it to themselves. They don’t. Instead they make it their life mission to prescribe their endless litany of snake-oil solutions for society’s ills, and enact them into law.
Here’s a common theme. “America is a war criminal.” In place of the word, “America” you can insert whatever president is currently using the military to defend innocent victims somewhere in the world from dictators who have their long eye on American shores.
It was a news story this morning that brought this whole thing to mind. Lockheed just got a contract to build a new missile. It’s called the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (I can already feel the mass of intellectually undead sharing a single liberal brain cell between them rising from the woodwork.) This missile is designed to strike a very narrow target, thus limiting unintended casualties. Guided by satellite, it can take out a single floor of a building from 40 miles away. It is unprecedented.
What doesn’t get said is this; no country in the history of the world has ever spent so much effort and money designing a technology of war with the goal of minimizing civilian casualties as the United States. Our efforts to do exactly this have resulted in the current quagmire in Iraq. Had we not cared about civilian casualties; had we not cared about preserving Iraqi religious history and artifacts, the war there would now be done and American casualties would be much closer to zero. Iran would be quiescent, and North Korea would be grinning stupidly and obeisantly reaching out to shake our hand.
Producing weapons of war with the purposed design of targeting only the immediate enemy is not the act of a war criminal. Protecting the innocent from maniacal tyrants is not the act of a war criminal. What is criminal is sitting indifferently in pacifistic stupor while helpless country after helpless country is overwhelmed and consumed by religious fanatics with an uncontrollable blood lust. To be a college professor today defending and espousing the actions of those fanatics and teaching others to do the same is tantamount to signing a deed on one’s own little condo in the eternal bowels of hell. Heating and utilities included.
Of course, that’s just my opinion.
Dang Les! I wish I could of said that! What the general public doesn't know and our current "leaders" never knew or choose to forget is that "Smart Weapons" were never designed to contain collateral damage in the first place. They were designed with one goal only - to save American lives by not having to send as many men into harm's way in order to take out a target. In WW II the US routinely sent waves of bombers numbering in the hundreds, each containing 8 to 10 crewmen to take out a target today we send 1 maybe two F-117s each with a single pilot. The happy little side effect of the current weapon generation being so accurate is that we have significantly reduced the civilian casualties. So much so that the American intelligentsia expects the US military to wage casualty free war.

Thank you, Jim for that important addendum. Especially your remark about the American "intelligentsia". (Of course, you must always put that word in quotation marks when referring to liberal "professors.")

Cap'n Jim, I always wish I could have said what Les says.
When I read "Few things turn my stomach more than ignorant pseudo-intellectuals pissing on America while they greedily suck up the bounty of her fruits. This is a rising liberal pass time." I almost stood up and applaused in my cubicle.
This is a good example of what those nimrod kids at Orange Coast College are doing.
When people who do not realize that if they had done this in any other country, they would have been swimming with the fishes at best, it just urkes me to no end.
Thanks, Les for yet another great rant.....between you and Tony...I have nothing to say about what's going on......oh and Brian had a great one on Tenny Pierce.
I'm out of here like a fart in a wind storm....
