I am angry. Not hateful. Angry. Before you read any further, make sure you understand the
difference. Anger is an emotion common to man. It is part of our survival instinct. Hate is anger that has been cultivated and nurtured into a permanent state. Big difference.
There was a time, I truly believe, when in the realm of the human psyche, the heart was ruled by emotion, and the mind was ruled by reason. The election of Barack Obama to the presidency, in spite of every conceivable appeal to reason, proves that our country has descended to such an abysmal state that now both heart and mind fall under the purview of emotion alone. Reason has become passe. To that degree, men become fools.
I have been advised, by more than one source, including my pastor, that, now that America has spoken, we need to unite behind Obama as the holder of the office, as the number one representative of the free world. He is now our leader, and we must show the world solidarity by getting on board and backing him.
Can’t do it.
Want to, yes. I have always done so in every other election, whether my guy won or lost (my guy almost always loses). I had determined that was exactly what I was going to do in this one as well. I certainly did not want to emulate the mindless, idiotic Bush-haters with their moronic chants of “Bush lied, kids died!” So I decided that I would grit my teeth, lower my head, batten down, and hope for the best for the next four years.
Can’t do it.
I can’t do it because of the underhanded, duplicitous, and condescending way he extorted the election process. Promising to be a “man of the people” he vowed to accept only public funding. He reneged on his word. McCain did not. The liar won, predictably. But only barely. The integrity of the people showed through in the fact that, despite outspending McCain better than 4 to 1, his election was not the run-away that such spending should have produced. Had it been an honest and forthright election, McCain would have prevailed, not because of any particular virtue of his, but because he is so much more experienced and qualified. That’s the kind of person sane voters put in this most important office. Emotion and a usurped media stood in the way of both reason and sanity. To add insult to injury, McCain's campaign contributions will be audited. Obama's will not, despite the evidence that he accepted donations from foreign countries; a federal offense. I'm supposed to support a felon in the oval office?
I can’t do it because he remains determined to undermine the most basic of American rights, freedom of speech, and the press. His campaign threatened radio stations in Pennsylvania and Ohio with losing their FCC licenses if they ran an NRA ad opining against his positions on gun control. Currently, while pretending to oppose the Democrats’ “Fairness Doctrine,” Obama again feints to the right while dealing a death blow from the left. His deception is to use a little-known rule called “localism” to mortally wound talk radio and conservative broadcasting. All opponents of his policies are severely dealt with while he retains his squeaky clean appearance. So it is with his suppression of free speech.
I can’t do it because he intends to repeal the secret ballot from union elections. How much American blood has been spilled throughout history to ensure our right to the anonymous ballot? Can there be anything more Marxist than this undermining of our most basic of freedoms? He moves one step at a time toward Big Brother domination of every aspect of life. I’m supposed to get on board with this?
I can’t do it because he completely ignores the will of the majority of Americans who favor restrictions on abortions by claiming that one of his first priorities will be to sign into law legislation that will strip away ALL restrictions. How then can he claim to represent an America whom he so audaciously ignores? How can he claim to back a Christian world view and yet brazenly ignore the most basic value of the sacredness of human life? And how is it “fair” (Obama’s favorite word) to pander to the minority and treat the majority as insignificant? This is the act of a dictator, not an executive administrator.
I do not expect my president to agree with me on every issue, or even a majority of them. I do expect him to protect me and my freedom to speak and to pursue happiness and success in life as my Constitution guarantees. When he refuses to carry out his sworn duty in this regard, how can I then be expected to support my own oppression?
I refuse to join the moronic ranks of those who hate Obama. I have no personal animosity like that shown toward Bush, where no matter what good he did, the idiots hated him anyway. What I ask from Obama, and what he has not shown inclination to do, is that he carry out his duty to protect. This is what President Bush did. He didn’t care who hated him. He was sworn to protect this country and he succeeded admirably.
Hate is the path to insanity. Not going there.
But after Deification Day, January 20, 2009, I will have no President. Nor will I be tuned in to his historical Deification Address. I prefer to follow reason and evidence over charisma and hollow rhetoric. I believe in the rule of law, not of personality. That is an American attitude, it is what I expect of my President, and it is not the face that Obama has shown us. Yet.
When he does; when he shows evidence that America, and not the “World”, is his first, second, and third priorities, I will consider him worthy of the office. Until then,
Can’t do it.
